This Privacy Policy explains how Words on Beat Challenge (the "App") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the App. "We", "us", or "our" refers to the developer/publisher of the App (Fenix Studio).

1) Information We Collect

A. Authentication

The App uses anonymous authentication through Firebase. We do not require you to create an account or provide personal information such as your name or email address.

B. Audio recordings

The App uses your device's microphone to record audio for speech-to-text transcription and pronunciation scoring. Audio recordings are transmitted securely to our backend servers and to OpenAI Whisper API solely to convert speech into text. Audio recordings are processed ephemerally and deleted automatically after transcription is complete. We do not retain audio recordings, and we do not use them for advertising, analytics, or model training.

C. Usage and device information

Firebase and other third-party services may collect usage and device information such as:

  • Device type, operating system version, and language settings
  • In-app events and screen views
  • Session duration and frequency of use
  • Crash logs and performance data

D. Advertising identifiers

Google AdMob may collect your device's Advertising ID and related device information to serve advertisements, measure ad performance, and support fraud prevention.

2) How We Use Information

  • Core gameplay: microphone access enables speech-to-text transcription and pronunciation scoring — the core function of the App.
  • App improvement: usage and diagnostic data helps us understand how the App is used and where we can improve the experience.
  • Advertising: ad networks use device identifiers to display relevant ads. Revenue from ads allows us to offer the App for free.
  • Purchases: purchase status is used to unlock premium features.

3) Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information. The App relies on the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

  • Google Play Services
  • Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage) — used to provide app services and anonymous auth.
  • OpenAI Whisper API — used for audio transcription. Audio is not retained after transcription.
  • Google AdMob — used to display in-app advertisements.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Fenix Studio, our users, or others.

4) Advertising

The App may display advertisements provided by Google AdMob. AdMob may use device identifiers and usage data to serve personalized or non-personalized ads. You can opt out of personalized advertising through your device settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization).

5) In-App Purchases

The App offers in-app purchases processed through Google Play. Payment information is handled entirely by Google Play and is not collected or stored by us. We may receive purchase status information (e.g., whether a purchase is successful) to unlock features.

6) Data Retention

  • Audio recordings: not retained. Deleted automatically after transcription is complete.
  • Anonymous session data: retained by Firebase for as long as needed to provide app services.
  • Analytics and diagnostic data: retained by Firebase/Google according to their default retention periods.

7) Your Choices

  • Microphone permission: you can revoke microphone access at any time in your device's app permissions settings. Note that the App requires this permission to function.
  • Ads personalization: opt out via your device's advertising settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization).
  • Purchases: you can manage purchases via Google Play.

8) Security

We use commercially acceptable means to protect your information. All communication with third-party services occurs over encrypted HTTPS connections. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9) Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@fenixstudio.app and we will promptly address it.

10) Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Effective date" at the top of the page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
